Hello,

my heating engineer suggested something like a suspended ceiling with ceiling heating. It actually sounded quite reasonable. When I slightly changed the kitchen layout, I remembered that we once had a pretty black spot on the kitchen ceiling because my sister had forgotten something on the stove.

How is it with such suspended ceilings or drywall ceilings or whatever you put there? How fire-resistant are they?

Simply paneled (i.e. one layer of drywall) already has the fire resistance class F30. That means the ceiling (if there are no built-in elements) can withstand direct fire for 30 minutes before it collapses. Now there are special ones that last longer. For your kitchen not relevant at all, since you will never have open fire up to the ceiling. Although, I don't know your cooking skills. If something burns, you are more likely to have problems with greasy deposits and odor. But the ceiling is not to blame for that.

A classic 12.5mm gypsum board is classified as non-combustible. Apart from the little cardboard on the surface, nothing burns there. Gypsum board is still the most affordable panel-type material for fire protection constructions. When you apply it in a fire test, you really see what the material can withstand.
