Support heights too low - how complex is relocating the supports?

Hi,

over the weekend I noticed that the bricklayers in the (residential) basement installed a lintel height of only 2.01m (from top edge of finished floor) instead of 2.135m, even though the plan states that all door openings are supposed to be exactly 2.135m high. Now I also understand why the foreman asked so intently if I had measured the lintels when I was measuring the walls...

Before I start the discussion, I would like to know what kind of damage this means for the contractor. Six lintels are in load-bearing walls, two are not.

My idea of the procedure would be somewhat amateurish as follows:
- set (existing) formwork with beams parallel to the opening
- chisel out or destroy half bricks above the lintel
- loosen, lift and support the lintel with half bricks and mortar
- let it harden (is one day enough?)
- remove the formwork

I can hardly estimate the duration of these activities – which is why I also wonder about the costs. What do you think?

I could possibly come to the construction site on Friday – at least I’m skilled enough for the demolition if the formwork is set and the lintels are properly reinstalled by one of the bricklayers. Probably I wouldn’t have to, but if it helps to keep the peace...

Regards,
Frank

Hello Hello

Material costs are certainly very clear there.
With two people, it can also be done in one day.

A very craftsman-friendly attitude, in my opinion.
That will definitely pay off in the further course.

Hi, the lintels are already up, I uncovered them with a friend in (exhausting) six hours. By the way, it was my mistake, in the execution plans only 2.135m was listed for the ground floor – I should have paid better attention to that during the planning. Now, all further holes on and in the house will also get a lintel height of (at least) 2.135m.
