Hello everyone, we are currently in the middle of planning our new home and are currently dealing with the topic "windows". Our favorite are "wood-aluminum windows". We have heard from acquaintances that these can sometimes be purchased a bit cheaper directly from the manufacturer - sometimes also in Poland. Are there any tips or experiences regarding this? We look forward to your tips and opinions.

I have no experience with windows from Poland, but currently I cannot report anything good about Rehau windows. Many inclusions between the panes and pinched seals. You can get bad windows anywhere. For a new build, I would only get windows from a specialist. With wood aluminum, you are immediately in the top price range. We chose plastic aluminum as the price/performance optimum.

What is the reason for wood aluminum windows?

Actually, there are only 2 reasons. You have too much money and you want to bring trouble with the windows into your house.

A wooden window always requires work. Wood always works. It absorbs moisture and releases it again. It swells and shrinks.
To make a wooden window more weather-resistant, it is clad with aluminum on the outside. Nevertheless, moisture can collect inside and damage the window. After 10 years, if you are unlucky, you have to sand and paint it.

[uPVC windows] or aluminum windows are significantly more durable and easier to maintain.

I have basically said everything about it or you can find the way to everything I have said about it here:

If you want my experience as a former window manufacturer (aluminum) and dealer (all materials): I don’t know a single window manufacturer who is any good AND runs a factory outlet sale to end customers - always either OR.

Hello 11ant! Many thanks for your expertise! We are looking at your older posts on this topic and are re-examining the “wood-aluminum windows”! At first, we had a good feeling about wooden windows regarding indoor climate and health. But maybe the other materials are also harmless. Best regards

Also check out my external window posts ("How many chambers does a window need" including the quotation marks should lead you to this series), and always keep in mind: wood/aluminum is either more expensive than pure aluminum or unfortunately BSD. The naive organic label feeling is a key motive for the (mostly wrong) decision for wood/aluminum. Knowing your house design, I could give a more precise window recommendation; usually, I mix PVC with aluminum (for the front door and other street-facing elements). Wood or wood/aluminum is practically only economically feasible for privately insured and compared to pure aluminum is just different, not better.
