Hello and good pre-New Year's Eve evening,

we - my wife and I - have been living in our house (built in 1978) for about a year. Today, for the first time ever, we noticed that a damp spot has appeared on the front door.

It rained quite heavily before, but not storm-like. There is a small canopy above the front door. The rain hit the side of the house where the front door is located relatively strongly with wind.

No rain has penetrated beneath the door, even though the door is old and does not have any special sealing.

Next to the door, there is a section made of glass blocks - here, too, the joints are damp from the inside.

When entering the house through the front door, you enter an unheated room (vestibule), which connects to a staircase. The room is generally cool (about 10°C), but it is not occupied in the usual sense. Air flows in and out through a rather drafty built-in mailbox - so I do not believe the moisture comes from inside.

Now my question: Is urgent action necessary here? It should not happen that the wall is damp?

Hello

I would definitely investigate where the moisture is coming from.
It could be that the canopy is fastened with slightly longer screws. Possibly drilled through the brickwork and the water is carried along the screw to the interior wall or ceiling.

Hello Steven,
thank you very much for the reply :)

So - it actually seems to be the door - the craftsman who was called in has confirmed that. The porch roof is mounted very far above the door (about 1m above) and is supported by a load-bearing "scaffold". It was noticed that the moisture only penetrates when the rain hits the door "from the front". In recent weeks, it has rained heavily at times without the wind driving the rain against the door - no problem occurred here.

However, we will have it professionally handled, as a professional solution is important to me when it comes to "moisture in the building fabric".

[QUOTE="DerRoman, post: 240505, member: 41543Wir lassen das aber professionell bearbeiten, da mir beim Thema "Feuchtigkeit in der Bausubstanz" eine professionelle Lösung wichtig ist.[/QUOTE]

Hello

that is the right way.
Moisture is often underestimated. Once the mold has settled, the renovation is more elaborate.
