Hello everyone,

In our basement, one room and the hallway have underfloor heating. The other three rooms do not have underfloor heating. The floor structure is therefore 14.5 cm in the rooms with underfloor heating and 8 cm in the rooms without underfloor heating.

Now there is the possibility to lay insulation under the screed so that the rooms are at the same height. For the storage room (water crates, food supplies, etc.), we consider it sensible to do this so that there is no step. For the laundry room and the utility room, we are not sure if it makes sense, as in case of water damage, it could even be advantageous if the water does not initially flow into the other rooms. What do you think, or how have you possibly done it in your place?

Best regards
Oliver

Hello Oliver,

we only have underfloor heating in part of the basement rooms (hallway and guest room).

However, our finished floors are all the same height, so there are no steps between the individual rooms.

For this purpose, our screed was poured in different thicknesses, as the respective floor coverings have different thicknesses.

However, we are talking about differences of only a few millimeters.

Can you drain your laundry and technical rooms through a central floor drain, with a slight slope towards it?

If this is possible, I would prefer this option of a "retention step" into the rooms.

Regards,

Dirk
