Smart Meter, what now, does it foretell a cost disaster for us?

Hello,

I have a silly question. With the pool and sauna, our consumption is between 6,000 and 7,500 kWh per year.

I understand that we will then receive a smart meter. Now the neighbor told me I have to be careful because variable tariffs are also linked to it and I would basically have to wash in the evening/night because the electricity prices (in theory) would be lower then.

This is how the evil electricity consumer is supposed to be forced to save.

Is that so?

What kind of electricity contract you have is currently determined solely by you.
We also have such a thing (Pflicht bei Solar) and still pay a fixed price per kWh.
Summary: Neighbor is talking nonsense based on the current legal situation.

Is that the case now? I thought only from 2025? And besides that, it can still happen that you initially don’t get an exchange (because by 2032 ALL households MUST be equipped) since the network operators have to meet certain quotas. It could be that there are too many potential or voluntary test subjects, so you don’t fall under it. Nothing is happening for me either - I’m now in the third year with over 8,000 kWh grid consumption, heat pump, and photovoltaics. No. It’s the other way around. You must be offered variable tariffs. But no one forces you to use them. So it’s rather an advantage for you.
