Hello Mycraft,

a note. There are now also experts with 960mA and 1280mA. The standard does not limit them to 640mA.

I assume you will also say something about the ETS, so here is a tip from me: describe the difference between device (the Light can have 20 devices) and channels. Because that is often misunderstood.

Yes, the problem is, however, that not all devices are TP1-256 capable. In other words, installable in lines with more than 64 devices.

TP1-64, the "old standard," is supported by all.

A TP1-256 line can only and exclusively consist of TP1-256 devices. In other words, power supplies with more than 640mA are only useful if you only use devices that support TP1-256. However, this is currently more of an exception than the rule... in a few years, this will certainly change, but in the private sector this is more or less irrelevant, as 90% of installations in the private sector manage well with 64 devices per line.

That could become a nice beginner thread, great! However, abbreviations like "PM" should at least be written out once. In the KNX user forum, beginners have zero chance to keep up because about 50% of the posts consist of abbreviations :D You have been quite detailed so far. Since the title generally addresses bus systems and smart home, my question is whether you only cover KNX or also address other systems?

Want to be prepared for a smart home upgrade, and told the electrician that I would like to have the 24-volt star wiring and the regular power cable installed. Initially, I want to use the regular power grid, later switch to the smart home solution.

He says that is technically not possible...!? Now I'm reading in a KNX installation manual that it actually is possible...

Does anyone have an idea why it might not be possible? I want to be prepared for the appointment tomorrow - if he doesn't want to do it, I'll just find another one...

Nice that you mention that, do you have a source for EnOcean components? Currently, I always search via Idealo, is there perhaps something from China?

The reason why your project is only conditionally feasible, I explained in the information thread.

The wiring in bus systems is structured differently.

In conventional procedures, you have a power cable that goes from the distribution box to the room at point A, then to B, and then to C. In between, the phase is "interrupted" somewhere by the light switch for lighting D.

In bus systems, however, the wiring is usually structured as follows:

Distribution box -> A
Distribution box -> B
Distribution box -> C
Distribution box -> D

And for example, the light switch then receives the SELV cable, which runs throughout the house, from A through B and C... up to Z.

I am only familiar with the usual sources...
