Hello,

I would like to ask for your opinion on the topic of sliding doors. We are installing a sliding door between the dining room and the kitchen. Originally, it was planned that this would disappear behind a drywall partition and thus would not be visible when the door is open. For that reason, the architect suggested not plastering the rear wall because space might become tight.

Now we have considered that it might be better to leave the door visible without installing an additional wall. Then we would, of course, have to have the wall plastered...

Has anyone had experience with this?

Hello,

No experience yet but in planning. We will put a wooden panel instead of drywall in front of one wall. In case of emergency, it is easier to remove than drywall.
But I still had the wall plastered. The 2cm doesn't matter to me. Besides, I can leave out the wooden wall if I don’t want it after all.

That is also our idea. We will have the sliding door installed only at the very end, or if the budget gets tight (which it is), that would be one of the things not done at first. Our architect then suggested that we could screw a panel in front of the wall... Well, I think that if we have it plastered, we will be better off and the whole thing will also be cleaner. Especially if the door comes later...

Hello,

there are very beautiful glass sliding doors that can be installed "auf Putz". This way you save yourself the wooden structure. The wall should of course be plastered. Disadvantage of the glass sliding doors: they are usually not completely airtight when closed.
