Good morning everyone,

construction is progressing on our site. Our walls (timber frame house) are already covered with Rigidur.

Now it's about "puttying." We want to paint all the walls later. First of all, in white.

The first opinion I had was:

"All the walls and ceilings have to be puttied."
-> that would be an enormous effort and correspondingly expensive. A price of about €7,000-8,000 plus materials was estimated.

The second, more commonly heard opinion was:

"The tack nails and the joints of the individual panels are puttied, then primed, and after that the walls can be painted."
-> that sounds plausible to me and would be a much more affordable alternative.

Can you give me recommendations? How did you do it?

Attached are two pictures (yes, I know – they are not very good :D)

Thank you in advance!

So my layman's opinion is that you can't just fill the joints and staples to then paint over them. It has to be filled and sanded very precisely. There are the Q-levels for that. Presumably, you should first apply painter's fleece, then paint. Or apply a fine plaster/roller plaster. But maybe an expert can comment on that.

Are there no other opinions? Slowly I have to make up my mind :-)

I would definitely fill the holes and then put fleece on it. That way it looks proper.

Try it out: Spackle in an area near a large window (so that raking light falls on the test surface), only the transitions, prime and paint. Then see if it is sufficient. Ultimately, the quality of the applied panels as well as your spackling skills and sanding will decide.

Do you want to plaster it yourselves or have it done? Otherwise, even if you plaster everything yourselves, there is a risk that you will sand waves into the wall again if you don’t really know how to do it.
