Hello,
I just read that the standard height for sinks is 85 cm (top edge of the ceramic).

That surprises me.

I am short, 1.60 m, and we currently have a sink at 90 cm. That is more than deep enough, IMHO.
My elbows are well above it, and why should I want to bend further?
What advantages should there be to hanging the basin lower??
I don't want to wash my knees in it...

Enlighten me.

Regards

That probably partly comes from times when people didn’t always just shower, but sometimes did a full-body wash at the sink. And with a lower height, you could also put your foot in the sink.

Also, one should think about children... more than 85 cm is already very high there.

Ours is hanging in the large bathroom at, I believe, 91cm. For me, at 1.93m and with disc problems, just high enough. But as already mentioned, children and other short-statured people also need to be able to reach it.

Everything between 85 and 90 cm is suitable for the average person, so that the hands fit comfortably under the faucet. Higher for giants and lower for true children's bathrooms. Ours are at 86 cm.

My wife is 1.64m, which is still okay for her without the water running down her arms. Children have to stand in front of it anyway.

I also find it too low and I am only 1.65. I don't really consider children an argument, since we are and will remain a child-free household (and no children will be visiting either). But while we're at it: I also find the standard toilet height way too low.
