Hello everyone,

We recently looked at a single-family house from 1905, where the sellers have carried out the major renovations and modernizations:

Windows with double glazing in 2000
Roof re-covered in 2008
Pipes (electricity, water, heating) in 2013
Bathroom + guest WC / general living areas renovated in 2013

Only the oil heating system is unfortunately from 1998.

However, I noticed that the steel beams in the basement are at least superficially corroded in many places (pictures attached). I understand that an assessment cannot be made based on a few pictures in a forum, but the whole thing needs to be inspected by an expert.

Since it is also difficult to get an expert on short notice and it will cost around 500€, I would like to hear the opinion of the forum first. In your opinion, is it even worth investing the time, money, and effort?

Thank you very much for any advice
Tim

More interesting than the question of whether something needs to be done would be the question of how much it would cost to renew everything? You will not be able to avoid the expert.

Do you perhaps have any pictures from a distance of 2-3m?

So in this case, a professional really has to take a look on site. You can hardly see anything in the pictures anyway. You can't avoid having it professionally checked.

Hello everyone and sorry for my late response.

Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures from a greater distance, and currently, we have not scheduled another viewing appointment at which I could take some.

From the other two responses, however, I gather that this is not an absolute no-go criterion, meaning the property could still be considered after inspection. Then I will try to pursue that direction.

Many thanks
Tim
