Good morning,

I am currently building a flat roof garage with an REI 90 fire protection panel and need a garage door 500 cm wide. It is in the corner of the garden, serves as a storage room, and is irrelevant in terms of security/burglary.
For me, the question now is whether to go with a wicket door or a separate entrance door.

[*]Pro wicket door: the wall facing the house remains free and I can let it be overgrown within view, which is important to me. Unfortunately, the other walls are not suitable for this, since 2 are on the property boundary with the neighbor and 1 is completely taken up by the door.
[*]Pro separate door: significantly cheaper, does not weaken the sectional door.

My main question is: one of the suppliers said that wicket doors are weak points on sectional doors (especially at this width), weaken the door, and he advised against them. What is your opinion/experience on this? The wicket door definitely needs a low threshold, as the high one is permanently impractical.

One more question: for my house garage door, I have a lintel under 20 cm and still have clearance here (distance door – ceiling), some door suppliers want up to 35 cm – how can this be?

P.S. The madness with craftsmen and material procurement these days… but well, this too shall pass…

Thanks, best regards Oliver

For your secondary question, I lack the time, especially since I am not talented at quick sketching. Regarding your main question, my assessment is clear: when it comes to a sectional door in double width, it is better to do without a wicket door - no matter where.

Thank you very much for the information!

I have now purchased a side entrance door and will order the sectional door without a wicket door.

Thanks again, best regards Oliver
