Shower tray or tiled shower?

Hello,

since it makes no price difference with our house builder whether we choose a tiled shower or a shower tray, we are now considering what to put in our children's bathroom. Can a tiled shower with a glass enclosure be sealed against water on the floor just as well as a shower tray (there the surface on which the shower enclosure sits is level)? Does a tiled shower floor require more cleaning? Then we're also thinking about whether an ornamental glass partition as a shower enclosure is easier to maintain because you don't see the limescale as quickly. A clear glass partition apparently needs to be squeegeed after each use, which my children definitely would not do. What do you think?

Best regards
Sabine

Good morning,

I would say that a tiled shower is initially easier to keep clean, door open, wipe through, done.
Regarding the partition, where should the difference be? Both are sealed with silicone and a waterproofing layer is applied under the tiles anyway.

On the topic of lime scale/wiping:
To prevent lime scale, we have decided that a water softener will definitely be installed. It does cost a bit, but I see the added value in many places (washing machine, dishwasher, coffee machine, shower enclosure).
And at least you should encourage them to wipe it down; the problematic areas are the side residues and the water on the silicone joints.

We decided on the shower tray... also flush with the floor, no problem. Keeping it clean is pleasantly easy. However, we have also gotten into the habit of always squeegeeing the whole thing.

We will also choose a flush-to-the-floor shower tray. I'm simply not a fan of tiled showers; I don't like them and I find(!) tiled showers less hygienic because of the grout; I know that this is not generally true but it is my feeling. To me, it has something of a swimming pool floor. As you can see, tastes differ, and neither will probably have significant advantages or disadvantages. In the end, it's a matter of taste.

The scraping is totally annoying. Especially since you stand wet with the shower turned off to wipe the glass. Just don't bother. If the lime bothers you, spray the cabin on the weekend and that's it.

That's why I asked about the structured glass version, maybe you can't see the lime scale as quickly there? How about plastic shower walls, not better either, right?

Best regards
