We are interested in a house built in 2006, constructed by local craftsmen who still exist today. The house has a square floor plan, and the roof is a hipped roof. During an inspection of the attic, I made the following discovery: The two main posts are mounted on a piece of wood? Why? Does anyone have a theory about this? I did not want to ask the owner any "unpleasant questions" because there are many interested buyers. The house apparently has no defects and is overall in top condition.

Thank you

Done a bit amateurishly. Beams cut too short or not available in exact length. Balanced out with wood. You can't see it in the attic.

No problem regarding statics? It's been standing for 15 years anyway. Unfortunately, we have to decide quickly about the house. Otherwise, I have checked everything else that is important and haven't found anything strange.

In theory, this is probably called shoddy workmanship, but in practice it seems to be common practice, and it happens repeatedly that this or that is extended or pieced together in the roof structure. Since the house from 2006 is apparently well maintained and in impeccable condition and there is no sign of a subsequent defect, one is probably buying a very good house with a flaw that, fortunately, is already known in an existing property.
