Semi-detached house, windows on the west or south side?

Hello everyone,
we would like to buy a semi-detached house and have the choice to select a house side with windows facing west (however, a few meters further there is another house directly) or facing south (there are no more houses next to it, only garages). The windows are in the living-dining area, bathroom, and bedroom.

Then rather the south side, from the west you have little because of the other house, in winter even less because of the position of the sun :(

Thank you for the response. Yes, that was also my thought. Between the houses on the west side there are two garages, followed directly by the front of the other house. The houses are 9 meters high.

There are great sun path tools online where you can easily simulate the position of the sun and the shadow fall at different times of the year and see to what extent you are influenced by the neighboring houses. Just type "Sonnenverlauf" into Google ;)

From my gut feeling, I agree with Yvonne, the south side is in my opinion the better choice.

I was just recently on this great site - it also confirmed for me what I often write here: broadly speaking, the sun sets in the west in very few months. Especially in the dark season, unfortunately only in the SW. Therefore, south-facing windows offer an advantage when it is needed, namely in winter :)

Thank you all! I think we are not making a mistake with the south-facing windows. On the west side, there are two garages between the two houses, so we will probably have to expect shading here. And yes, the website is really helpful :).
