Security retention

I am new here in the forum and hope you can help me.
It is about the security retention on partial payment requests or partial invoices.

Is it allowed for the percentage amount of the security retention to change between the partial payment requests or partial invoices, or must it always remain the same?

Unfortunately, I could not find anything about this in §17 VOB.

Usually, the retention is 5%; unless a different amount has been agreed upon. You receive the security as a guarantee - if agreed - or you reduce each progress payment by exactly 5%. No roller coaster ;)

How long is such a security deposit usually withheld?

How long is such a security deposit normally retained?

If nothing else has been contractually agreed upon: 5 to 10 years (depending on the contract); to be deposited into a blocked account. Rhineland greetings
