Hello everyone,
we have gutted our main staircase. Previously, there were 3-4 thick marble slabs that protruded about 3-4 cm to the front and side. Since we have installed underfloor heating with different layers, we have to adjust/level the stair heights anyway.

Visually, I find such laid-on steps nice. The color could be beige/cream/sandy instead of gray.

1. Such steps of about 20mm thickness are hardly found, or am I looking for the wrong search term? Our dimensions would be 100x30. They could also be somewhat larger so that they can be cut down. Can terrace slabs be used here if necessary? Window sills would certainly be too slippery.

2. In the picture there is no base, or no step cladding. Would a plastered version, or a cover not be extremely prone to dirt? (Main staircase).

In classifieds, results appear in 10 seconds. Every roofer or carpenter offers something like that. Otherwise, natural stone companies.

Hello everyone,
we have been searching the last few days. My wife sent me a picture where she would actually prefer the staircase to be more "clean".

Unfortunately, our current concrete steps only have a depth of 27cm. The idea with the board on top was to let it protrude about 2-3cm, so that you get to 30cm.

1. How critical would you consider stair steps with a depth of 27cm?

Depending on how the 27cm is viewed, I would have to see how to get the current concrete steps in that direction.
Currently, the steps look a bit rough because the height had to be balanced, see picture

27 cm are OK. If you let the steps protrude, it is also only 27 cm. It's just that the tread itself then has 30 cm. Purely in terms of running feel, it is the same.

How big are your feet? How does it feel for you to walk on the stairs? For me, those would be much more critical questions than consulting the opinion of the general public. Btw, 27cm is a common dimension and is fully covered by DIN standards – whether it is suitable is for you to decide.

At 2 cm thickness, most softer stones are eliminated. Then almost only granite comes into question. We had this problem with the outdoor stairs, where we wanted to replace the awful pink granite with slate or basalt so that the stairs match the landing. We would have had to lay basalt and slate with an overhang at a thickness of at least 3 cm. We will probably choose a dark gray granite now.
