Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the bathroom.
That is why I have done extensive research on how this could be implemented.
For me, it is purely about the floor and the shower area; the remaining walls will probably just be painted white/cream.
Below I have made a list of the different possibilities.

So far, I have found out that 1) XXL tiles are probably the easiest to maintain/care for. Is that correct?
With 2) natural stone, you apparently have to be very careful and must not use aggressive cleaners.
Regarding 3) plaster, I have read that it needs to be sealed once a year. Concerning cleaning, I have read that you should always wipe the plaster dry. Does anyone actually do that after showering?
I haven’t really found anything about 4) and 5).
6), 7) and 8) probably do not come into question, as I don’t find them visually appealing.

As described in the question, my main concern is to find out which implementation type requires the least work in everyday life. Basically, I really like 3) plaster, and maybe there is a type of plaster that is easier to maintain? If anyone has tips for low-maintenance 1) XXL tiles, please feel free to share.

Thanks in advance!

Are you concerned about the floor and the shower area in the bathroom? Then I wouldn’t bother with wallpaper or plaster. They are not suitable for your problem areas. Panels, glass, or smooth tiles require a lot of maintenance.

The floor in the shower or bathroom should be slip-resistant... This can, for example, be a mosaic with a relatively large number of grout lines (even if most people reject this, which I find incomprehensible). In this respect, you are well served with a normally sized tile that provides grip on the surface and is somewhat patterned.

Our walk-in shower has so far only been cleaned by showering, and even after 3 years there are no signs of wear. The tiles (no XXL) are squeegeed after showering, nothing more.

They attack the grout on tiled surfaces, so they are also prohibited there. On the other hand, it will never be necessary to use aggressive cleaners in a normal household.

I would design the bathroom more in a way that I really like and then consider a cleaning person. That definitely takes the least amount of work in everyday life.
