Hello everyone,

due to our high altitude, there are significant subzero temperatures in the deep winter, horizontal snowfall from the valley side, and furthermore pure sunshine in the summer. We are planning a gable roof with a 35-degree pitch, and the architect has suggested making the roof out of concrete (prefabricated parts or casting, at the moment he prefers the former). This would have, among other things, the advantage that the house does not heat up as much. Additionally, we are planning a black house and the roofing will also be done with bitumen.

Does anyone have experience with a concrete roof? If yes, can someone report something (advantages, disadvantages, costs...)? Currently, with 150sqm of roof area, additional costs of about 15,000 euros are arising with everything included.

Best regards
Karlstraße

So when I am traveling in high-altitude areas in Germany and Austria, I don’t see any concrete roofs there ... I think something else has proven itself.

And you are seriously considering that?! Even an air conditioner should be cheaper than going for such a special feature. Or instead, green the roof, that works too.

You are building a black house in the Alps and want it not to heat up so much?

How about an alternative with a Ytong solid roof? That would be my choice if I were planning again.

Also an alternative, looks interesting in the pictures on the internet. We'll see, otherwise you are probably right and it will stay with the rafter roof. I can imagine that a concrete roof is better for the climate in the house, especially since the house is open up to the roof. But whether the difference justifies 15 k€...
