We are visiting an old house this weekend. The attic is already partially finished so that there are three rooms (about 50 sqm in total). However, one room (30 sqm) is still unheated.

How much would it approximately cost to convert this floor into a rental apartment?

I know that such statements cannot be made generally. But I would like to roughly estimate this information for myself.

Heating would still need to be installed in the large room. In addition, electrical wiring and connections for the bathroom and kitchen would have to be installed, and a bathroom built.

That entirely depends on the standard one aims for and whether one can (mainly) provide own labor. Pure material costs nowadays are at least 30-50 thousand euros for a simple standard if one has no connections.

Many points play a role here: - Approval situation ==> is a separate apartment allowed there? - Escape routes? - Completely separated from the rest of the house? - Is the electricity only available for the apartment alone with meter and everything or does everything still have to be adjusted? - Water pipes have to be run through the entire house, likewise wastewater. It’s unpleasant if, for example, the wastewater pipes would have to run on the ceiling under the future bathroom. - Heating as planned? - Are there sufficient parking spaces available according to the municipality’s parking space ordinance?
