Hello everyone,
we are currently in the process of purchasing a semi-detached house and have now noticed that on hot days there is an oil smell in the attic. According to the owner, the roof was insulated with a friend 1-2 years ago as a DIY project using regular roofing felt.
Has anyone had a similar experience? We are considering whether it would help to install drywall panels instead of the current wooden ceiling to keep the smell out of the house. Could that work?
What about the electrical wiring and holes drilled into the ceiling for lights, etc.? Does the smell come back into the house through these holes? Or does one first have to install an insulating layer under the roofing felt, then lay the electrical cables, and then cover it with drywall panels? How would this affect the air circulation of the house? Won't we then have a ventilation problem...?
So many questions
Thank you very much in advance for the answers!
