Dear community,

I am (unfortunately) not a born handyman and need support – in doing so, I came across this great and friendly forum and hope that you can help me.

The following situation: my doorbell is old... and awful. I only want to replace the button on the outside, I don’t want to do anything inside: the door chime is completely fine. I took off the switch on the front door and found a small tangle of wires: two cables are connected, another one is in the box – I hope it is visible in the pictures.

My question: can I buy any button I want? There are also nice ones with an LED ring; what do I have to pay attention to? Thank you very much for your support and have a nice Friday everyone!

Regards, MF

Just my speculation:

If the existing button closes the circuit from the doorbell transformer to the doorbell and thus triggers the gong, you can use any button that has the same technical function.

The nice illuminated rings require separate power (usually 12 or 24 volts).
At least that is the case with the doorbell button I installed.

Maybe it is connected somewhere there? A multimeter could help you with that.

It also works without. For example, Metzler offers nice doorbells that also provide LEDs with 2-wire (already installed myself).
