Hello everyone,
I would like to renew the split clinker in our covered outdoor area and replace it with new split clinker. The new split clinker is about 0.5 cm thinner than the one currently installed. However, I need to achieve the same total height with the new split clinker.
Now to my question:
The substrate has suffered a lot over the years and is very crumbly in some places. I’m attaching a picture. This means: when removing the old tiles (extremely firmly fixed), the screed comes off in places, but the rest is still solid. Since I will be tiling using the thin-bed method, I cannot fill these unevennesses with tile adhesive.
I came across a leveling compound from QuickMix that I can apply in a thickness of 2-60 mm. Do you think I can simply prime the uneven substrate with a bonding primer and then pour the leveling compound?
Second question:
As might be somewhat difficult to see in the picture, the substrate is breaking away on a large area at the corner of the step. I can’t work with leveling compound there either. Can I just place a formwork board here and refill the screed without it breaking away under the new tiles after a short time?
I would be very grateful for your help.
