Hello, after reviewing the forum I unfortunately didn’t find anything suitable on the topic of renovating an old prefabricated house. Therefore, I’m asking if someone might share interesting, new experiences in this context. We have bought a Hanse Haus from the eighties and are currently planning the renovation. We will definitely replace the asbestos-containing fiber cement facade and also improve the insulation. What I’m interested in is the issue of pollutants and odors. The main problem substances in older prefabricated houses are primarily the largely odorless formaldehyde as well as the odors chloranisoles and chlornaphthalenes. We also have a musty smell. The question now is: is it generally recommended to replace the V100 panel on the outside along with insulation and then paint the beams and infill panels with limewash, plus apply new insulation and new wood fiberboard? Is that usually sufficient? What about additional or alternative measures such as complete installation of a Valutect foil from the inside, or alternatively plastering the entire interior with clay? Do you see these as alternative measures to replacing the exterior walls or only as an add-on? Thanks and best regards, Felix
