Hello forum I am quite new here and my project is described in the introduction round. I want to renovate my staircase and am looking for ideas. It is a staircase covered with Solhofer tiles. The subfloor is concrete and the tiles are glued on it. At least I hope so, maybe also cemented. I find the tiles quite ugly, neither the size nor the color appeals to me. I once read that you can sand the tiles and thus achieve an almost seamless look. Is that true? Is it possible to change the color chemically? Painting or similar? Otherwise I could imagine cladding the staircase. There are now stone slabs that are only 8mm thin and are supposed to be suitable for this. Is something like that recommended? Or is it better to hammer off the old tiles and rebuild completely? Dirt is not an issue, since the house is being extensively renovated anyway and will only be inhabited afterwards.

Hello,

You can rough or fine sand them or have them brushed. I find smoothing to be pointless - especially in the stair area.

Yes. If you change the riser height, you will later experience an "unpleasant" feeling when climbing the stairs.

Kind regards
