Hello!

We are about to buy a house that needs renovation. It has a good structure, a dry basement, plenty of space, and ceilings about 3 meters high.

We want to handle the whole thing quite energy-efficiently and are considering underfloor heating with a thermo solar system.

Now the question: to what extent do the high ceilings affect the heating costs with underfloor heating? Should the ceiling be lowered and additionally insulated?

Good morning

In the Jugendstil house I now imagine high ceilings, partly double-wing doors, and delicate windows. I would not sacrifice any of that for energy saving. Underfloor heating is quite possible there. To compensate for the increased energy demand, you could consider a pellet boiler. A thermal solar system is possible as a supplement.

I am imagining underfloor heating in combination with a [Thermosolar system] on the roof, a fireplace with a water jacket in the dining room, and as the main heat source, a wood-burning stove for logs. This should cover the heating demand with relatively little wood consumption per year. My main question now is whether I need to significantly lower the ceilings for the underfloor heating to work, or if I will just have slightly higher energy consumption due to the high ceilings.

Aren't the high ceilings exactly what define the character??

Morning Morning

The underfloor heating also works with high ceilings.
