Hello everyone,

I am viewing a house on Friday that is very close to the requirements and we might want to act quickly. To estimate the costs correctly beforehand, I would like to know what I can calculate for a planned renovation.

There is a window on the west side of a square corner room, we want to move it to the north side (exact reasons don’t matter for now). The window is about 1.5m * 1.5m in size. The house was built in 1992 and is faced with brick veneer, the window (I believe with a roller shutter) is made of wood.

Is it possible to have a construction company remove it, relocate it and put the brick veneer back in the old position? Obviously, you will be able to see a bit due to the slightly different faded bricks and the joints, but that is okay.

1. Possible?
2. Estimated cost range if you have it done?
3. Is a building permit required?

Thank you very much for your help!

Best regards,
Dirk

Basically, everything is possible in principle. Of course, it becomes difficult to get ALL the stones out without breaking them. After all, they are actually inseparably connected. A different window position also means that it needs to be resealed there. Very likely, stones will be missing, which you probably don't have lying around anywhere. The new window position must be statically possible as a wall at all. If necessary, it has to be newly supported, etc... Another problem could arise with the window itself; who wants to install a 20-year-old window somewhere else. The whole thing will probably be really expensive. I can hardly estimate that now. It certainly makes more sense to install 1 new window.
