I have decided on the Expedit combination with a one-legged, attached desk for my living room. However, the desk depth of 80cm is too much; I only need 60cm. Now I wanted to saw off the worktop and one side panel so that one side is only 60cm instead of 80cm. I am aware that they are made of corrugated cardboard (sandwich). I have two questions:

1. Will the desk top still be stable with the open side?

2. On the side, a fitting into the Expedit shelf will probably also need to be shifted. Is it feasible, or will there be a lack of reinforcement there to hold the screws?

Expedit consists almost entirely of air inside, so I strongly advise you not to saw at it because you will almost certainly have to throw the piece away afterwards

No idea how the combination looks exactly now, but if 20cm is too much, then you could just put something there... like a Moppe drawer cabinet (available in 20.5cm depth) or books or... With Ikea, I would assume that the furniture as shown in the catalog is stable – but that this can change abruptly if you tinker with it yourself.

I believe you did not understand me. The desk is too deep at 80cm, I do not have that much space in this corner. So I want to reduce it to 60cm.

Has anyone already sawed through this sandwich construction?
