The development plan states a possible model position. This is not mandatory. You can also clearly see this on Google Maps. Houses have even been rotated from the specified ridge direction and garages built in other locations.

Because of their lowest common denominator mentality, I can understand the popularity of this solution as well as it amazes me given the costliness. Overall, I would like to call it anti-landscaping ;-)
