Hello, can someone tell me if it is worthwhile to use polyurethane resin in a private house? We actually wanted to tile the whole house except the bedroom. Is polyurethane resin more cost-effective? I could imagine it in the kitchen, pantry, and children's room. Who knows what? Thank you very much for your effort!

Well, polyurethane resin is always a bit of an issue. The hydrophobic properties and electrical insulation, as well as mechanical protection, I think cannot be denied. However, it must be noted that polyurethane, like PVC, is a chlorine-based plastic! This must not be forgotten. Toxic gases are released during combustion. However, PU is not intended for combustion anyway... I myself used a PU casting resin and I am still alive! ;D In general, I can only say that it is important for the polyurethane resin to cure (just like with epoxy resin!), otherwise problems can arise. Otherwise, polyurethane resin is definitely worthwhile in house construction!

Best regards

Hello everyone, so polyurethane (PUR) has nothing to do with chlorine. Chemically, it belongs to the group of urethanes. PUR is produced by mixing polyol and isocyanate... but in unfavorable cases (depending on the formulation) it can contain various amines. With complete conversion of the reaction, the amines are firmly bound in the resin matrix. When processing PUR, accurate ratios must be observed to ensure a complete reaction. And isocyanate reacts with water... So there should be little moisture in the soil, otherwise you get rigid foam. With every incomplete combustion of carbon-containing substances, toxic gases are released... even with wood, CO is produced... Regards Frank
