Hello everyone

I recently tried the POÄNG chair from IKEA at friends' place and found it really comfortable at first glance. Now I'm wondering if such a chair is also good for longer TV evenings or for reading. Does anyone of you perhaps have a POÄNG chair at home for a while and can report whether the sitting experience remains pleasant even after several hours of use?
I would also be interested to know how stable the chair is, especially when you sit down a bit more heavily or lean back.

Thank you already for your experiences!

I have had many kinds of seating furniture, including high-priced ones, but in this price range the Pöang is simply great. I recommended it to my son as well, and he bought a nice version, I think black frame with brown leather. I myself even had it 30 years ago, the black frame with bright red leather. Great thing and extremely comfortable.

The Poäng armchair can be found in many households, probably because it offers a quite distinctive seating experience. When it comes to longer TV evenings or reading sessions, the comfort often remains consistent, even after several hours – provided one prefers a slightly flexible, not too soft seating feel. The springy construction indeed supports the back without the cushion losing its shape quickly. However, some users notice that the seat cushion gradually wears out over time, which can lead to the purchase of a replacement cushion after a few years of frequent use.

Regarding stability: the construction is designed to be stable, even when sitting down with some momentum or leaning back more strongly. The high backrest and the slightly springy frame absorb movements well without the chair tipping or feeling insecure. However, it is important that the chair stands on a flat surface and has been assembled correctly to prevent wobbling. Even users with a bit more weight usually find the POÄNG to be solid.

The armchair is therefore quite suitable for longer evenings and extensive reading sessions, as long as the personal preference is not for very firm padding and one likes the slightly swinging seat surface. With regular use, it is advisable to occasionally tighten the screws and keep an eye on the cushion. In terms of price-performance ratio, the model is attractive compared to many other armchairs in this category, which probably also explains its widespread popularity.

Have a nice and cozy evening

In this fundamentally comfortable chair design, it is crucial whether the circulation in your legs is impaired by the seat edge or not. This largely depends on your body proportions and can only be tested by yourself.

Hello,

thank you for your tip about the seat edge, that sounds plausible. Have you noticed any specific weaknesses regarding the stability or overall durability of the Poäng? I am especially interested in whether the wooden frame starts to give way or creak over time – or if the construction really remains solid in this respect.

That should then make my slight concerns disappear...
