Hello everyone,

I would like to "plant" our slope to the neighbor and somehow anchor it in the ground.

It is about 20 meters and a 45° slope with a height loss of about 2 meters.

What is the cheapest way to accomplish this, rather with shrubs or with other plants?

Thanks to you all in advance and best regards

Carpet medlar for example. With 40 sqm2 and 5 to 8 plants per sqm at €3.50 each plus some soil, you end up with just under €1000. But they grow so densely that you don't need weed fabric or anything similar. Half a day of work plus some watering.

Sounds like a plan, which plants should I take for that?

I have installed a jute erosion control mat on my embankment and sown a flower meadow on it, with a few annuals like poppies as an addition. Caution: be sure that it is a permanent flower meadow with perennial species and not just a few summer flowers. Appropriate mixtures can be obtained, for example, from Syringa, Hof Berggarten, or Rieger-Hoffmann for about 60c/sqm. Necessary maintenance is mowing twice (June and autumn) with a brush cutter. In June, leave the cuttings for 2 dry days so the seeds can fall off, then rake them up. In September, the cuttings can be removed immediately. I probably should have watered them better; due to the south-facing location it is quite dry and the plants only germinated late. But what doesn’t come this year will come next year ;) Here is a picture from early July.

For the appearance, I would also plant a few drought-resistant bushes that grow slowly, so that the maintenance effort is low.

On our embankment I planted: Hazel, Summer lilac, Privet, Elder, Forsythia, Wild plum, Spirea, Curly willow, Euonymus, Dogwood

Except for two summer lilacs, I received all the plants as small cuttings from neighbors or friends.
In summer, everything grows very densely, which was important to us because we live on a much busier street.
