Hello everyone, I am currently facing the decision of choosing an oak parquet and have already compared several manufacturers here. Basically, I prefer an oiled parquet rather than a lacquered one. I have already picked a favorite here. However, I noticed that this one is quite expensive, which basically should not be a dealbreaker. But I know that most people in this forum have installed parquet and therefore want to ask if anyone has laid similar parquet and can share their experiences. The parquet is only intended for the living/dining area as well as the living rooms. In the kitchen, bathroom & guest toilet, I want nothing other than tiles :) I look forward to your feedback and experience reports. Regards goldfisch138

What kind of experience do you need? I have been installing dozens of different parquet floors for 20 years (is that the plural of parquet?).

Conclusion: In the end, it’s all wood. The workmanship differs slightly (cheap ones don’t click together as well). The top layer, which you probably won’t sand down yourself for the next 25 years anyway, is sufficiently thick everywhere. Choose what you like and enjoy it.

P.S. Currently Haro oak smoked. Before that, oak white oiled two-layer parquet for 25€. Before that Haro oak Sauvage from Haro. Before that Ter Hürne Wenge and something with maple. When you install each parquet, you won’t see any difference anymore – I mean, you can’t tell which parquet had which price. And you can’t feel it either.

I have had Parador 3060 oiled 3-strip oak for 10 years, full recommendation from me. It has held up very well despite minimal maintenance. I installed it myself, it went very well. However, I glued it because I wanted a firm stepping feeling and not to insulate the underfloor heating too much. I would do it the same way again.

At that time, I had obtained offers from various suppliers, the prices were very different. In any case, much cheaper than the RRP. In the end, it was about 30€/sqm delivered to my home, with 3-strip being cheaper than the country plank.

Back then, I ordered various samples from the manufacturers, which were free or very cheap. I would say that there are indeed differences, easiest to see by the thickness of the wear layer. A sample of two-layer parquet from a not unknown manufacturer destroyed itself over Christmas without being installed (so warped that it splintered). That option was then out....

After looking at many samples, we decided on Weitzer (I checked: Oak Ice, country house plank "wild", chamfered, relief planed, natural color differences, oiled, 3.6mm wear layer, 14mm total thickness). We are not "cleaning kings" and do not have the most super-clean household. The parquet is also in the kitchen. So far, everything is working well, and there is no regret about the decision. The deciding factors for us were 1. The look 2. The feel - I could clearly feel differences when I held the various samples in my hand. This is purely subjective - I am not a professional 3. The company we wanted to work with had experience with this product. (We originally wanted a different product, but I then canceled it because the manufacturer began trying to push another craftsman workshop on us.) Whether another parquet would have led us to the same conclusion after 6 years is very well possible - I just lack the comparison now.
