Hello,

we have a question regarding the sill height of windows on the ground floor.

First, it concerns the kitchen window. According to the floor plan, a sill height of 100 cm is planned. With a screed of about 18-19 cm, only about 80 cm remain for the countertop height if it should not extend beyond the window?
We are currently planning with a countertop height of 90 cm.
Calculation example: Screed/floor 20 cm + countertop 90 cm = minimum sill height of 110 cm?

Furthermore, a sill height of 100 cm is also planned in the living room. After deducting the screed/floor, about 80 cm remain. The shorter end of the corner sofa (backrest height 68 cm) will be placed in front of the window front (window width 3.01 meters). We are unsure whether the height fits and would appreciate an assessment. The other windows on the respective walls will be adjusted accordingly. Therefore, this does not need to be addressed.

Thank you very much!

Before or after Christ, with or without VAT: it is always the same complaint that when giving parapet height measurements, it is "often" omitted which "zero height" they refer to.

A parapet height of 100 cm above finished floor level is actually good - if the sink is in the swing area of the window, I recommend more parapet height in the kitchen or at least a fixed window section at the bottom; this is also practical for kitchen herb pots. Many builders also run the countertop into the window reveal instead of installing a separate windowsill.

Are we still talking about (#33)? - then take the parapet height 100 above finished floor level and "adopt" the parapet height 125 of the WC window as the upper edge of the fixed lower section.

Really difficult - we put a lot of thought into it and the result is... OK.

I would run the countertop into the window sill and plan the lower part of the window to be fixed.
You should get help when planning the exact measurements, that’s a bit tricky!

We have the window sill a few centimeters above the countertop. This results in the following consequences:
We could have really used those few centimeters for the window size, because with 1.5 m width, two sashes and a fixed lower part, there isn’t as much glass area left as I thought.
The small patch of forest between the workstations and the windowsill doesn’t look very nice, it should actually be covered because it’s very delicate (we painted a wallpaper protector).
Pro: you can use the windowsill separately and, for example, you don’t get bread crumbs on it which would mean you constantly have to clear and clean it.

Also: we made the mistake of adapting the window sill height in the dining room to the kitchen. Now you can’t really look outside while sitting – I find that unfortunate (when the windows were installed, we first checked how much it would cost to change that – but it was too expensive for us).
So I would plan the windowsill behind the sofa to be a bit below the backrest. That way you don’t have to look at the wall, windowsill and frame from the sofa.
