Hello everyone,
we have a basement made of precast concrete elements, with the partition walls made of aerated concrete. The floor is currently untreated floating screed. Since everything is still "raw," we would like to spruce up the basement a bit. It is a technician's room and a storage room with possibly a small workshop corner in the future, i.e., not living space.
Our painter recommended first priming all exterior and interior walls, concrete ceiling, and floor with Caparol CapaSol RapidGrund. Then paint the walls and ceiling with a dispersion paint. Since it is only the basement, I have already bought Alpina Original in the offer for this purpose.
The floor should be painted with Disbon 400.
My research on the internet and here has shown that this sounds reasonable.
However, there are still edge insulation strips on the screed at the edges. What should I do with them? I understand that you should not simply cut them off, but only shorten them after laying tiles. Due to the necessary shortening of the doors and also costs, we want to avoid tiles. I have read that you should otherwise close the gap with Sikaflex. Or use cheap skirting boards in front of it, which I find hard to imagine on a painted floor.
Therefore, the question is whether it is better to close the gap so it is only visually concealed? What advantages and disadvantages does each option have?
Thank you very much in advance for your help
