We painted our carport. At the beginning, I wanted a good glaze so that the work wouldn't be in vain. You can really get tricked when it comes to paints and varnishes. So I chose a brand-name company. After that, I was at the hardware store. There, the same amount is priced at less than half. Now you ask yourself, am I crazy or what? What do you think?

I can only say this much. The prices for Consolan, for example, range from 45,- for 5 liters at the specialty store down to 27,- for the same quantity from a seller on [amazon marketplace]. Karsten

When it came to wall paint, it really knocked me off my feet at first. Luckily, I only invested €200, but next time I'll buy the cheap store-brand from the hardware store like a friend of mine. It costs less than half, the white looks the same, and the finish is even a bit better. Before I buy something that needs to be spread next time, I'll inform myself more thoroughly.

But please do not compare apples and oranges. With wall paint, the price and quality differences are enormous. If Lidl has the one from baufix, you can use that. The low price paint go on, for example, is also low quality. Caparol is overpriced. Those who can get Sto basic, normally only through the painter, get good professional-grade material at a reasonable price. You can see it in the uniformity of the brush stroke and good coverage.
It’s not the same with varnish either. My father, a master painter by profession, painted a lot of white for us. After years, there was still gloss and it was white, not yellow. A cabinet in the bathroom that I painted myself with Renovo hardware store varnish has yellowed on the handle. Karsten
