Opening the fireplace during renovation, but how?

short and simple question. We are currently renovating the house.

I want to open my old decommissioned chimney, but the usual keys don’t work.

In the photo you can see that it is a square "entrance" but behind that there is only a "metal plate". The chimney sweep said on the phone to simply use a Phillips screwdriver, but that was pointless.



How do I open the lock?

Can you please upload a micro image of the lock? Unfortunately, nothing can be seen.

Remove the wallpaper or whatever that is. There must be something behind it that can be turned. Should the door remain undamaged?

If that is a rectangle, then take a suitably large screwdriver and turn it to the right. Spray with W 40 beforehand and let it take effect. It may also help to simultaneously tap the lock with a small hammer.


The chimney sweep surely has the right key. Search the internet for:
