Hi everyone,
I am new here, so far a silent "lurker". Now I need some collective intelligence, thanks in advance for that.
We have bought a house, built in 1959. The window replacement is coming up soon, all are still thin single-pane glass.
Now I have a topic with the windowsills:
The windows rest on the windowsill with the lower frame, at first I thought there was an external sill on which the window sits, and an internal windowsill, so 2 parts.
I wanted to remove the internal windowsill now, leave the external sill to mount the new window in the same place again (on the sill), but had to find out that the part is a one-piece block, moreover reinforced..?!?
Now I probably have to break out the entire windowsills, which of course creates a nice broken edge at the bottom that has to be rebuilt. What would you use for that? Can you fill something like that completely with mortar/cement?
In general: Has anyone ever seen one-piece windowsills, that is the cold bridge par excellence... they must have known that back in the 50s too, right?!
Thanks a lot and best regards
Dom
