I have decided to install recessed lights in the drywall ceiling.

My question is, how many do I need to install and where should I place the spots??
I was recommended 6 pieces x 35 Watt NV 12V, arranged symmetrically, for 9 sqm.

Hello Didi,

the recommended number of 6 pieces is not so wrong after all.
35W is also a good choice. However, I would not opt for low voltage lamps. These require a transformer, which on the one hand must be placed so that it can be replaced if it fails, and on the other hand a transformer can also break down.
In my house, I have installed only lamps that I can connect directly to 230V.

Hello Yalta,

after much back and forth I have now decided to install NV.

I have also thought about the transformer and read reports about it in other forums. There are some people who install a speaker or put a grille over a certain spot to easily access the transformers in case of a defect; I will do something along those lines as well.

Another aspect is the cost-effectiveness; NV are simply somewhat cheaper in the long run.

Nevertheless, I thank you for your well-intentioned advice.

Best regards.

Dieter

Well then, good luck :)

However, I don’t quite understand the issue with cost-effectiveness.
In terms of acquisition costs, the systems without a transformer are cheaper.
The power consumption is the same: 35W high voltage is identical to 35W low voltage.

Recently, I installed spotlights. About 12 sqm, with 9 lamps. I took some from Max Bahr. There are 3 spots per transformer, the electrical items cost 19.99 for 3 pieces, the glass covers cost almost 30 euros for 2 pieces (depending on whether they need to be waterproof or not). It was super quick upstairs. For all 9 lamps, just under 180 euros were paid + Bosch drill = 200 euros.

Thanks for the information.

I already bought mine 6 x 35 watts, NV and that with 2 transformers for a total of 85 €.
