Hello everyone,

I hope someone can help me, I have bought a multi-family house with my family, built in 1963, and completely renovated it (windows, gas heating, full shell insulation, etc.). It has a total of 2 floors + a converted attic. Unfortunately, I currently have the problem that noise travels through the chimneys from the "originating" floor to the other floors, i.e. if someone is speaking somewhat loudly on the 2nd floor, I can hear it through the chimney walls in the ground floor.

About the chimneys:

[*]All three run from the basement up to the top.
[*]One has the gas heating connected
[*]The second runs through the living rooms, with a wood stove installed on the second floor
    [*]The third is unused.

All the chimneys are masonry, the floors are made of concrete, on which fleece screed has been applied.

My questions:

1. Has anyone had similar problems? If yes, what have you done about it?

2. Which "specialist" is the best to contact in such cases?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hello, be glad that you do not live in a house with other parties because that would really be bad. If you only have one pipe, then it is clear that the sound is transmitted everywhere. That can hardly be prevented, but it is indeed unpleasant if you can hear it everywhere in the house.

Hi, this is a difficult problem that you should discuss with the heating engineer. Because it is certainly not a good solution to close any of the openings. Especially if the gas heating is connected, this could become dangerous. Even if you get good tips, be sure to discuss them with a professional!!!

Hello,

thanks for the tips so far, the fireplace on which the gas heater runs is less of a problem, the heating engineer has laid a pipe upwards there, apparently that dampens the noise a bit, I'm more worried about the other two, but I think I'll contact the heating engineer and chimney sweep...
