Hello dear ones :-)

My husband and I are currently working on the interior finishing and now want to dare to lay tiles. We have laid tiles several times before but never tiles as large as now (30x60cm). Father-in-law and others keep interfering and warn about problems with such large tiles, saying air bubbles could form, everything could easily fall off the wall, etc.....
We are slowly getting a bit nervous. What is the difference between laying small and large tiles? What do we need to pay attention to?

For large formats, you must ensure a cavity-free installation. Ideally, a combined adhesive method is used. For this purpose, the back of the large-format tiles is additionally coated with tile adhesive. The adhesive bed on the substrate is combed through with the medium-bed notched trowel. This allows unevenness or fitting inaccuracies of the tiles or the substrate to be compensated. To achieve a precise and neat joint pattern, due to the high weight, you must use tile spacers or wedges for large-format wall tiles.

Hi,
We also faced this problem, but my husband did not let himself be discouraged. He managed it wonderfully and used these [Fugenkreuze]. The joints look good. We also have these large joints on the floor in the shower. Here he sealed everything beforehand with a painting foil.

For the corners, he worked on these large tiles with a glass cutter. That all worked well too. So I think it’s great.

Kind regards

You need quite a bit of experience and knowledge for that. I use a kind of combined tile adhesive for this. It is important that these tiles are fully glued over the entire surface. Then nothing can go wrong.

Exactly, and that's how I do it. After some tiling work, it now works wonderfully. At first, there were also some difficulties and I often had to make corrections. However, with every additional step, I learn more. :)

That is of course not so easy with these large tiles. Especially for beginners, I do not recommend it. I also had my difficulties and then had a tiler come. Before I struggle and the tiles fall off again. No, I did not want to put myself through that stress.
