Hello everyone,
following question: insulating the valley rafters.
I am aware that there are numerous entries on this topic, but not every attic conversion is the same. I wonder whether to completely wrap the valley rafters because, as seen in the picture, there is an air gap between the valley rafters and the battens nailed onto them.
If the climate membrane is led around the valley rafters to the ridge, in my opinion, cold air could get from the intermediate insulation into the attic and condense there. That’s why I want it to be airtight.
Solution 1:
Insulation board up to the ridge, completely wrap the valley rafters, and then stick foil to the rafters.
Basically wrap everything visible with proClima Intello.
Solution 2:
Insulation board up to the ridge, lead the vapor barrier below the valley rafters. (In my opinion, risk because the attic gets cold) That’s what the carpenter suggested, simplest solution.
Solution 3:
Loosen the battens on the valley rafters slightly, insert sealing adhesive in between, and nail back.
Then seal the foil tightly at the valleys.
Completely wrap the ridge purlin? Or stick foil to the purlin?
The roof is new with 6 cm wood fiber insulation above the rafters. Attic ventilation not possible.
All fiddling is accepted; I have time during winter.
Thanks in advance for hopefully constructive answers.
