MUMSIG oven door suddenly shatters into 1000 pieces???

Hello, something very strange happened to me... We have had a MUMSIG built-in oven for almost 6 years. Today I opened the oven door (the oven was cold) and suddenly the outer oven door shattered into a thousand pieces. How can that be? Nothing got stuck, nothing fell on the door, there wasn't even any resistance when opening the door... How can something like this happen? Does anyone have an explanation?

I can only imagine that the pane had a tiny crack or a chip somewhere. It didn't even have to be visible. Bumped into something, not knowingly and also a few days ago, and due to the strong temperature differences, a tension builds up that then discharges. I know a similar case from the exhibition, though with a cooktop.

That happens, like with a car window. Somewhere a small scratch or a tension, and suddenly you have 10 million small panes.

But: there is a replacement through Whirlpool customer service... They have the customer service phone number. Maybe you are lucky and the door is still available. But it is not very cheap. However, probably cheaper than a new oven...

Hello, I discovered this page by chance. I have had a Mumsig OBI B00 oven from Ikea since 2007 and last week the outer glass of the oven fell down at my feet in thousands of shards. The oven was cold, I had forgotten to put a tray back in, opened the door, put the tray in, closed the door, it made a pop sound (as if it exploded) and the glass fell at my feet. Unfortunately, Ikea does not take responsibility and refers me to the customer service of Whirlpool/Bauknecht. There I am supposed to pay about €126 for the glass, about €70 for the trip, and one hour labor of €112 for the technician (who only replaces the glass and not the entire door). On advice, I have now written a letter to ask if there might be a possibility for goodwill. Maybe someone has another solution for me, as I am actually convinced by Ikea. Best regards Gismo

Buy the glass and call a local service technician for white goods (that is, an appliance technician, BUT A REAL ONE!) and have them install it for a small amount of money.

An hourly rate of 112 euros is a joke. Totally. I drove 50 km for 36 euros gross travel costs including inspection (without repair). Hello? (The repair then came WITHOUT additional travel costs at a 50 euro net hourly rate (billed quarterly hourly) plus the spare parts, on which they also have to mark up a bit, that's just how it is, otherwise the craftsman dies!)

So look for a reputable craftsman business! (Ask about prices and if necessary take witnesses and so on, put the phone on loudspeaker during the call etc.)

(Or have the glass additionally ordered by the craftsman business, provided all device data is available. Although SOMETIMES it is cheaper to organize the parts yourself because then a middleman is eliminated)
