Hello,

according to our soil report, our soil class is between 4-7. Due to the hillside location, quite a lot has to be excavated. Is there a possibility to monitor the excavation? I want to avoid the company later claiming that, for example, 150m3 instead of the actual 50m3 of soil class 6 was excavated and removed.

Anyone have any ideas or personal experience with this? Thanks!

Sure, commission external expertise.

The company will issue an invoice later; if you then have doubts, you can ask and, for example, want to see receipts. You can already point out today that they should collect receipts (receipts from the landfill, etc.). You can also estimate yourself how much excavated material is plausible (length times width times height plus assumptions or researched values for bulk densities, etc.). A friend of mine actually noticed discrepancies with the excavation and "saved" a pretty sum of money. So, there seems to be potential. It is also a good strategy to hire your own construction supervisor (expert or the like) who critically watches at the beginning and makes critical comments. This is said to -- according to reports -- make the executing companies and craftsmen aware that they have to work properly on this construction site because someone is watching.
