hi community

we are currently building a house and are in the final phase. now I was on the construction site three days ago and had to notice that in the basement rooms, as well as on the ground floor, several walls were damp, if not wet! lines have formed where something has dried a bit. now it is such that we are supposed to move in in about 10! days! so should I move into a construction site where such defects and also other defects have occurred and have not yet been fixed? according to the site management, this is normal and absolutely no problem. -> but this has been said several times already and we are slowly tired of being comforted with excuses. the basement is so damp that we can hang laundry to dry, but we will definitely have to take it down wetter again!! is this normal or what do you think??

..definitely not

Hello Mike

so if it were an old house, then you would have to live with the moisture. Because in the past, rammed concrete was often used in the foundations. This stood uninsulated on and in the ground... moisture will always diffuse there.

But if you are talking about a new build and the budget is fair on both sides, then I think (as a remote diagnosis) you don't have to accept that.

In an emergency, even get legal advice... but before that I would try to find an amicable solution with the general contractor.

Also consider consequential damages that can arise from such things.

Unfortunately, today it is necessary to have conscientious construction supervision throughout the entire construction period. (because price pressure leads to botched work) The home builder is often already overwhelmed.. this is logical, since not a professional (mostly).

Write down every defect exactly and present the list to those responsible with the question what they intend to do.

And... do EVERYTHING, even if tedious, in writing... accept answers only in writing as well.. in a dispute, that is the only thing that counts.

But I hope it doesn't come to that, and that you can move into your new home satisfied and happy.

Regards

from me
