Hello,

my parents want to have their house modernized. Among other things, foam is to be filled into the wall cavity (7-8 cm).

In a wall in the stairwell, they have some glass blocks in the exterior wall. Does anyone of you have experience with how these will react? The foam will probably also run into the gap between the blocks and "seal" them. Will that look really terrible or should all of them be removed and the wall closed (the consultant suggests that, they don't have a cost estimate for it yet, but the effort seems enormous to us)???

In the house, the radiators are also recessed in wall niches. These are to be closed and the radiators placed in front. Does that make that much of a difference???

Looking forward to your feedback!

Maya

Hello,

What kind of foam

How am I supposed to imagine that now?
Glass block-air gap-glass block????

Radiator niches always represent a thermal bridge. By adding insulation to the exterior wall, this is even increased. So close off radiator niches.

Best regards

Hello,

for example a 2-component foam that then expands and hardens (white material)

Yes, exactly, since a block is not as thick as the entire outer wall.

ok, thanks!!!

Wait a minute, you want to fill the air layer between the wall shells with assembly foam Who suggested that?

I don't know exactly what the civil engineer has planned now. In other houses, he has used the following, sorry, I got the other information from a modernizer brochure: Aminoplastic resin thermal insulation foam How about that? However, the main question would be "what do we do with the glass blocks?" Thank you

OK, that probably does exist. But unfortunately I can't say anything about it because I've never heard of it, seen it, or been told about it.

Well, I would definitely remove the glass blocks. Maybe replace them with a window or something. What kind of facade is there?
