Hello,

I recently heard about a somewhat different alternative to a full basement, namely a so-called mini cellar. The dimensions are approximately 3 x 5 m and that's it.

Does anyone know this type and has built one? What kind of cost savings does this bring or what does a mini cellar cost approximately?

I am looking forward to the answers!

Thank you Anna

Hello,

This is usually a partial basement; nothing new, then.

None at all .... at most about one third cheaper than a full basement.

Best regards

Take a look at various prefabricated garage providers. I once came across a garage with a basement. No idea what it costs, but it might be interesting for you.

I myself only have a partial basement, it wasn’t a bargain in terms of cost, but since there was no more space to be gained above ground from the house, it had to go deeper, and due to neighbors it’s only a 2/3 basement.

Only half of my parents' house has a basement. And they still paid a lot for it and now have space problems...

In the case of a so-called mini cellar or partial cellar, a relatively large amount of space is lost for the cellar access/egress, so the relative gain in space is even smaller as a result. If executed properly, there should be no structural problems. However, in rare cases with a partial cellar, cracks can occur between the base slab and the partial cellar. The settlement behavior due to insufficient compaction or differing load-bearing capacity of the subsoil is a possible cause. A soil survey makes sense and a good structural engineer is required.
