Hello everyone,

Currently, our garden is being worked on and paths are being paved. We would like to take the opportunity to lay a water line from the house to the garage at the same time in order to have a faucet there. We would make this frost-proof - but that is not enough, since we are laying a "U" and the water would collect in the pipe underground and freeze there in winter.

We were now advised to blow out the pipe with compressed air before winter. But I find that a) very inconvenient and b) the risk is extremely high that someone might forget to do it and then the pipe bursts.

Others have advised us to use a pipe heating cable - a special heating cable that is wrapped around the pipe in question and then heats it electrically in winter... but I find that energy-/cost-wise crazy.

Are there no alternatives such as pipes that can stretch enough so they don’t burst and then return to their original shape or automatic valves that can be installed underground? How is this done with lawn irrigation systems???

Thank you very much for your tips
Best regards
Martin

Turning off the water Run until nothing comes out Leave the tap open Nothing should happen. At least that's how I know it, and frozen water pipes only occur if the shutoff was forgotten Nothing else is planned here either. Water and air can escape when it expands due to frost. And it first has to freeze so deep that the water at the lowest point underground even begins to freeze
