Looking for temporary power alternatives - is an emergency generator useful?

Hello everyone,

we applied for construction power in March assuming that the connection would be available 2-4 weeks later.

Now we have received feedback that many projects have accumulated over the winter and therefore the construction power will only be available in 8-9 weeks. We absolutely cannot wait that long, that would throw the entire schedule off.

If we cannot bring the date forward, we need alternatives!

We are developing a gap site – so we have no "neighbor construction" from which we could draw power.

One possibility would be a large emergency generator, which would also make considerable noise. I don’t want to upset the workers right from the start.

Even if that might not be an ideal start with the new neighbors, maybe someone with a "normal" power connection could help out from the garden or similar?

Did anyone happen to have a similar problem? I found some who forgot to apply for construction power in time but none who reported a solution.

Thanks in advance

Unit or neighbor. Especially the "old ones" tend to have high-voltage power in the garage to operate tools. But clarify when electricity is actually needed. You don’t need it from day 1.

Yep, that's how it looks, talking to the neighbor and agreeing on compensation. For most work, a cable reel and 16A are usually enough.

Except of course if you have a crane or something.

Hello Lobster

I would also talk to the next or the neighbor after next. 100 meters of cable doesn't cost the world.
Buy a meter on Ebay, connect it in between, and please the neighbor with a 50% surcharge above the electricity price. It should be less expensive than construction power.
If you need three-phase current, simply do all that with a 5 x 2.5mm² or even 5mm² cable. Install a small distributor in the house and the problem is solved. An electrician can do it for you in an hour.

You can also put the emergency power generator into a hole in the ground, then it gets quieter... at least that's how I know it from festivals.

We also spoke with the neighbors. All 3 (both sides + opposite) would have helped us with 32A protection. We then took the shortest route, and it was OK with the neighbor if we simply pay him the difference to the previous electricity bill on the next invoice.

16A protection can also be tight without a crane. With us, the wet cutting machine from the shell builder as well as the plastering machines (inside + outside) each required 32A protection.

P.S.: On our countryside, basically no one takes construction electricity unless you are building in a new development area.
