In the meantime, I have already started a few threads, I hope the introduction is not starting to get boring, but:

We are currently in the process of renovating our farmyard and owe the carpenter feedback regarding the windows. We have the largest windows facing west (ground floor: two large barn doors will be glazed, two somewhat longer pointed arch windows, and five smaller pointed arch windows on the ground and upper floor). Now I am thinking about heat protection. At first, I thought of Venetian blinds for the two large barn doors. Due to the pointed arch, however, full coverage is not possible and there is also always some wind here. Then the carpenter suggested sun protection glass. We would additionally use pleated blinds for glare protection. A small canopy is planned to be installed in front of the two longer pointed arch windows at some point.

The following questions:

1. Will the heat gain be significantly reduced?
2. Will the light transmission be significantly decreased or is that negligible?

In winter, of course, less heat gain is unfortunate, but the sun no longer shines so strongly from the west anyway.

1. yes
2. Negligible
My mother has her entire conservatory fitted with sun protection glass. No other shading.
Together with controlled residential ventilation, no problem.

Thank you, that's what I wanted to hear :)

Maybe you can also assess this: We are considering ordering the windows on the upper floor possibly without thermal insulation glass. This is mainly for cost reasons (although I can't estimate the additional costs yet) and because the windows here are not very large either. Can this be seen from the outside (strongly)?

The windows appear slightly darker. If you do not have a direct comparison or do not know, you will not notice it.

Again: thanks :) Then we'll probably do it that way. Unless the additional cost is manageable.

I wouldn’t say so generally that it is negligible. Definitely take a look beforehand, apparently not every [Sonnenschutzglas] is the same. In our office, for example, it is terribly dark even in bright sunshine...
